There’s no hot water, at least there wasn’t any when we needed to shower before checking out. If cold showers suit you, this might be the place. Our room itself was decent, but for what we paid for one night, that alone made the stay unacceptable to me. I’ve never been left without hot water before, and I’ll raise the issue with booking.com. No one should be treated this way or left to deal with the owners’ lack of care for their customers. Shame on you, the owners of Paratene. Getting there was a problem too. We landed at 9 in the evening and had to take an Uber because bus drivers were telling us they wouldn’t go as far as the nearest station. The place is a bit far from Bilbao airport, with no shops nearby, so food and drinks can only be ordered online. There’s also no elevator, air conditioning, or soundproofing.

The place was clean and affordable, which worked for us since we just wanted somewhere to sleep before moving on. The customer service person was very nice. Check-in is self-service: you enter your reservation number and name on a monitor, and it gets pretty dark at night. We visited from the USA in September. It was a little warm until around 3 am, when the temperature outside dropped. There’s no air conditioning, elevator, fan, or window screens, so keep that in mind if you’re used to those things at accommodations in the USA.

The automatic self-service check-in and checkout were convenient, and the place was clean. The person in charge was friendly and attentive. I stayed with my Parents and sister, and the lack of air conditioning, fans, elevators, and window screens made things less comfortable in warm weather. If you’re from the US and used to having those amenities, it may be hard to adjust. It could work for younger travelers or people without another option, but be aware of those limitations.

The town was beautiful and very reasonably priced, and I really wish we could have stayed longer than one night. We were there the night before the Europa league final. For the money, I wasn’t expecting much, but the hotel was a great surprise. Our room had two bedrooms, one with a lovely en-suite, plus another bathroom, a large seating area with a big TV, and a little kitchen. I couldn’t recommend it more.

The room was quite warm, and street noise went on until about 11PM. Communication was poor throughout. They didn’t answer my texts, emails, or messages, and I never saw Alex, who was supposedly the manager or owner. There also seemed to be scammers trying to get my information by claiming I had to fill out the forms again. After I left, I received an email saying I owed more money, which was bogus too. 😥
