Hotel Almendra

Everything was very clean, including the rooms and bathrooms, and they provided towels and soap. The view looked into an interior courtyard and other room windows, so you may want the curtains closed for privacy. It didn't bother me and made a great start to the Camino Ingles. They can stamp your credentials, too. The station is about a 10-minute walk away. Late check-in suited us since we arrived around midnight. The door was locked, but we rang the bell and the host let us in. Staff don't speak English, though we checked in quickly and they showed us to our rooms.

We found parking nearby, though it took some effort. For peace of mind, the hotel also offers garage parking next door for $8 a day. The staff were so sweet that we felt at home, and the rooms were clean with a pleasing sense of stepping back in time. The Wi-Fi was amazingly fast. Great restaurants are within walking distance, and it was great value in Ferrol.

The room was okay for 30 eur, but it smelled musty, and the water did too. It was clean enough, though I would have appreciated hand soap. My window opened onto the laundry area, with no privacy and questionable security. There was no soundproofing between rooms. I could hear the man next door get up and pee during the night. If luxury is what you want, this isn't it. If you just want your own toilet... In the morning, I found the door locked from the inside when I tried to leave. An older man came to open it and stood in front of the door. I really hate feeling locked in, plus it's a fire hazard.

I spent a week here in February 2019 and couldn't have asked for a better stay. Lorena was a delight and spoke English much better than my high school Spanish. The room was clean, quiet, and bright, the café attached to the hotel was nice, and the staff were friendly. I'd happily give this fine place more than five stars if I could.
