Hostal Aigua Clara

We explored the beautiful island by bicycle and came away thinking this was the best place to stay. It’s quiet, but there are still plenty of bars and restaurants close by. We loved the hotel, especially breakfast on the terrace, the friendly staff, and the lively garden with lizards, birds, and bats. From our room we could watch the sea and the sunset. Mediterranean paradise, we’ll be back!

I loved my stay at H.Aigua Clara at the end of September and would happily come again. The garden was full of life and had beautiful sunsets, and the whole place was spotless. My room had a minimalist Mediterranean style and everything I needed. Breakfast on the terrace, with a view, was pleasant. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and Maria, the owner, was lovely. I chose Hostal Aigua Clara without knowing much about Formentera, and it turned out to be just right for a relaxing week. The location is hard to beat: quiet, near lovely coves for sunbathing, restaurants along the boardwalk, and a bus stop. A taxi can get you anywhere on the island in about 15 minutes. My clean, comfortable room had a terrace and comfy chairs; the bathroom had good water pressure, and the AC worked well. Breakfast was delicious, snacks were available, and the kind, friendly staff made the trip unforgettable.

We were looking forward to staying at Aigua clara, but left after just one night instead of the five days we had planned. The owner, Maria, I believe, was understanding and agreed to refund the remaining nights. She also offered to store our bags while we went to a beach before leaving, though in the end we didn’t use that option. Breakfast was decent, and the breakfast area and terrace were pleasant. For the price, though, we expected more, and the lack of hospitality and response to the problems we raised made us cut the visit short. At check-in on Monday evening, the young man at reception seemed uninterested and didn’t give us basic hostel information, so we had to ask about everything. There were no yoga classes during our stay, even though they were prominently advertised on the website and Instagram, and yoga was one of the main reasons we booked. The fan in our room was too loud to use at night. The AC blew cold air straight at me, uncomfortable with three of us in the room, though we knew the room size when we booked. We couldn’t keep the windows open because of mosquitos. Our room was tucked into an odd area at the back of the hostal that wasn’t shown in the online pictures, which left us feeling misled. The nearby beach also fell short of the picturesque images we’d seen.
