After a long day cycling, I reached Fortanete and learned there were two hotels. The other one had closed by the time I passed, so I was glad to find a room at Mercadales. Mine was spacious, with a mountain view, and they kept my bicycle safely. Dinner and breakfast were both enjoyable, all at a reasonable price.

Running a business like this in rural Spain takes dedication and hard work, and I want to recognize the managers for it. Calling this place just somewhere to sleep or eat misses what they do. People like them are rare in this country. Thank you for your effort and for making the world a better place.

We showed up without knowing what to expect, and it was great. The room was new, clean, and comfortable. Dinner was excellent, and breakfast was even better. A highly recommended spot in the area.

We stopped at their restaurant on the way down from Valdelinares and ate like royalty. The food and service were both great. Highly recommend! 🙌🏼

We only ate at the restaurant, not the hotel. We appreciated them serving us on a Sunday afternoon, almost outside lunchtime, but the food was average at best, with nothing special about it. At 17 euros, the set menu didn't feel like good value for the quality. The waiter was so curt that his manner was almost comical. If I'm back in town, I'll check other places first. If there's nothing else, this restaurant will do.
