Villa Maria

Our room was superb, and breakfast was just what you'd expect. The host is a lovely person who runs the place with real care and hospitality. If you're nearby, this is somewhere to stop.

On a cold day, the stove was lit, which made the place feel especially cosy and comfortable. Our host was attentive, and breakfast with its homemade food was a treat. It's a lovely little place to stay in this quiet town.

Breakfast was generous, and the coffee Javi made was delicious. Our room fit the style of the house, with comfortable mattresses and pillows, a clean, tidy bathroom, and hot water. The whole property has so many thoughtful little details to discover. We don't speak Spanish, so it was a real pleasure to find that Annalisa, Javi's wife and co-owner, speaks many European languages fluently. We were impressed by the service in such a remote spot. We hadn't expected much from a small village hotel on our way to Portugal, but found a lovely place to stay and visited some interesting places in the region, including Candelario village. We'd happily recommend making the extra few kilometres to this B&B for a truly good stay. They still couldn't serve dinner because of pandemic regulations, though there is a local restaurant just around the corner. We stayed at Villa Maria from 2.-4.10.2022.

The village is quiet and safe, and there's no problem with parking. The rural hotel is well kept and delightful, and the room was clean and smelled nice when we walked in. The owner welcomed us, speaks English, and has been running the hotel for 25 years. We stopped here to rest while travelling a long distance from southern Portugal toward France, and felt comfortable here. As a former hotel manager, after opening five hotels and earning my master's at Cornell University Hotel school at Statler in Ithaca, NY, I strongly recommend it. It's great value for the money.
