Hotel Astoria Park

We came away with a positive impression, and the price-quality ratio was excellent. We didn't eat at the restaurant often, but always found something tasty. At the end of the season, the rooftop jacuzzi, sauna and pool weren't busy, so we had a great time there. The room was comfortable, and staff took out the garbage every day, though cleanliness overall wasn't at the highest level. The walls were very thin. Our neighbors came back from the club at night and were very loud, including while having sex almost every night. It was a good thing we didn't have kids with us. The best part is the location: all the important places are easy to reach on foot, and the central bus stop is only two minutes away.

It had been a lovely stay at a grand hotel until Sunday afternoon, when I noticed about €40 in €1 and €2 coins missing from the counter. I'd been collecting them all week, and nobody had touched them before then. I reported it to the man at reception. He took my details and said he'd speak with the maids in the morning. When I asked for an update next day, a woman took my details again and said she'd check with management. Later she told me management said they couldn't do anything because I hadn't kept the money in the security box. I went back to the room and saw what the box looked like. I don't know whether I was supposed to pay for the lock insert or if it was just broken. I didn't bother going back to reception, since I knew I wouldn't get anywhere. It felt unfair that maids could enter my room every day whether I wanted them to or not, especially if some of them were thieves, and the hotel seemed to wash its hands of any problems involving them. Other parts of the week were fine. We stayed Tuesday to Tuesday, and breakfast was good. The room was okay, at the back on the 2nd floor. If we left the balcony door open at lunchtime or dinner, smells from the vents came into the room. The maids cleaned every day whether you wanted them to or not. The TV remote had a few broken buttons, but reception replaced it straight away. On Saturday they took our used towels and didn't leave fresh ones. Luckily, we'd bought towels that day and used those instead.

Nice location, and the staff were good. The building's a bit outdated but still does the job. Parking costs €22 a day, and the spaces are tight in the upstairs parking area.

The food was decent, and the location is handy, close to the beach and shops. But the noise inside the hotel made it hard to sleep at all. You could hear people walking and talking, and some of the morning staff were so unfriendly they didn't even say good morning. Staff also said things loudly enough to embarrass us. What upset me most was that my underage son asked for a non-alcoholic drink and was served one with alcohol because the staff didn't understand English. The hotel should take that seriously. Someone could have an allergy, or follow a religion that forbids alcohol and drink it without knowing. It's in Europe and should follow European restrictions.
