The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms very clean, the location was good, and the price felt fair. Still, after more than 20 years of staying in rural houses, this was the first time I’ve given a rating this low. Dust, especially on the sofa, was a real problem for one of us who has a dust allergy. When I mentioned it, the owner said the house had been occupied the week before, so perhaps the dust had built up, though the rest of the house seemed clean. We were also disappointed to find no parking area. On the second day four cars were parked in front, so we had to leave ours far away and couldn’t keep an eye on it at night. The barbecue was just a small one on the dining room balcony, and when we saw its condition we decided not to use it. We should have asked for details, but it wasn’t what we expected from the listing. There were no TVs in the bedrooms, even though two bedrooms are shown with TVs in the photos and on the website. Recycling was unclear too: there was a brown bin, which we took to be for organic waste, and a blue one, but no instructions or nearby containers. We sorted plastic and glass and left them in the kitchen, which was tidy enough, but the owner didn’t seem pleased. Maybe we were just unlucky, but this wasn’t the right choice for us. The value for money was good, but those details mattered to us.
