Camping L'Alquería

The town and beach are within walking distance, which is nice, but the site itself feels very worn and could use a major overhaul. There are many long-term residents, and some areas look like a shanty town. Reception was fine, though the restaurant staff seemed miserable. The toilet blocks look decades old. Some Dutch long-term residents leave their dogs’ mess around, and nobody seems to say anything to them.

We stayed for a week. The showers and toilets were clean and looked nearly new, but there was nowhere in either to put your things. The pool was just the right temperature, and the restaurant was cheap, with good coffee and delicious sandwiches. Being beside a busy road makes it easy to reach Aldi, Family Cash, the beach and downtown, but the traffic noise carried on at night. Across the bridge there are sewers, and sometimes the wind brought the smell over to the campsite. Some neighbours with dogs seemed to hate people; their dogs fouled the area and barked all night while the owners slept peacefully in their cars. That disrupted our stay, though we had a good time overall.

We haven’t stayed yet, but I wanted to thank the two women at reception. The site was full, and after another local campsite lost our confirmed booking and had no space, they were kind and helpful, pointing us to somewhere that could take us. We had a good look around and plan to come back next winter for a longer stay, reservation pending. It seemed like a friendly, clean campsite, and we’re looking forward to returning.

Gandia town and the beach are lovely, and the staff made us feel welcome. It’s a large campsite with lots of people staying over winter, a heated indoor pool and excellent washing facilities and showers. Reception was friendly and spoke English. It’s especially popular with French visitors in winter and Germans in spring. Highly recommended.
