Hotel Garaiko Landetxea

A lovely restored little place, and the staff couldn't have been kinder or worked harder. Guests can use the lounge and breakfast area, including the terrace, whenever they like. There's also a fridge with local wine, beer and other drinks on an honesty basis. The bed was a bit small, though it was reasonably comfortable. Light sleepers should bring earplugs: the church next door rings every hour starting at 7am, twice 😀

We accidentally booked Hotel Gairko Lantdexia through Booking.com, without cancellation insurance, after confusing it with the similarly named nearby hotel or country house Garro Lantetxea in Munitibar. We explained the mix-up to the owner over the phone, and they immediately refunded the booking amount to our account. It was all handled perfectly. Geert. NL

The little team here made us feel so welcome. They were helpful and accommodating to everything we needed, and the rooms were beautifully arranged. The setting is peaceful, high on a hill with views across the region, right in the heart of the Basque Country. Durango is just a 10-minute drive away. My only suggestions: give the ensuite bathrooms more separation from the rooms, and let guests know in advance they may want earplugs for the church bells. It's a spectacular place to stay.

The friendly staff were a plus, and the room smelled nice, with pleasant decor and a lovely roof window. But the bathroom door was completely transparent and didn't reach the roof, so it felt like part of the room and offered no privacy when sharing. I also wasn't sure exposed electrical cables were safe. We could hear the neighbors and the church beside the hotel because the walls don't block much noise.
