Casa Rural Lakoak

Just outside the old town centre, this is a lovely place to stay. We got a great tour of the house, a 300-year-old wine and brandy distillery. The hosts were warm and helpful, and breakfast was generous and really delicious.

The room was roomy and comfortable, and the jacuzzi felt great after a day out exploring. The place is an old wine press where they used to make wine and liqueurs. Highly recommended.

The junior suite had some nice touches, including sparkling wine and two small bottles of water, and we loved the jacuzzi. But a strong musty smell and cat urine made it hard to sleep, and the smell seemed to get into the sheets and cushions. The mini fridge rattled loudly through much of the night until my husband unplugged it. In the morning, water covered the window and the walls felt damp. When we opened the window, water came down on us. There was also a lot of dust, which bothered my husband’s allergies, and the house had a well-like smell. The woman who runs the place was very nice. Breakfast cost nine euros and was adequate, though I thought it was a bit much for what we got, especially with the sandwiches smelling musty. This was our one-night stay, and all those problems left my husband feeling disturbed too. We slept badly despite enjoying the tub.

Alex was a delight when he welcomed us and told us about the house’s traditional winemaking history. Javier also took us through Navarre’s history and shared what to see, along with stories about each town. I’m not entirely sure how he’s connected to the hotel. The room was large, with a huge comfortable bed, and it’s a great base for visiting the area’s historic towns. December may not be the best season, but we had a fantastic stay. Breakfast and the attentive service were a real treat. There were other guests around, though we didn’t get to meet them. Highly recommended!
