El Môderne Hotel Urban & Unique

The air conditioning didn't work in summer, and the HVAC vents had visible dust. The air felt unfiltered, while the dim rooms made it hard to notice the dirt at first. We couldn't sleep on the lower floor because of noise from bars nearby. Even earplugs didn't help, and our request to change rooms was turned down at first. Staff offered a move only after we'd decided to leave and booked somewhere else. This was the one bad part of our birthday trip, but it nearly spoiled the vacation. We're still disputing the charge with the hotel.

The breakfast could use more variety. With so many good cafés close by, going out for a bite might be the better option. Otherwise, El Moderne Gijón is a comfortable, nicely decorated city hotel, and the staff were great. The woman working in the bar one evening was especially friendly. Its location makes it easy to explore Gijón, and it's a solid all-round choice.

My partner and I chose a sixth-floor suite with a terrace and were very happy with it. It was stylish and surprisingly quiet for a city hotel. Breakfast was included each day, and it was delicious, just the right start before heading out to explore Gijon. The Moderne is in a perfect spot, with lovely rooms and incredible staff and service. I plan to visit Gijon again and would be glad to stay here.

We left three nights early, on my wife's birthday, because our second-floor room was so noisy every night that neither of us could sleep. You can hear all the street noise, and other reviews mention the same problem. The hotel still charged us for the three nights we didn't stay and won't refund the money. The room was dirty too, with a stained carpet and dust on the headboard and furniture. There was no coffee maker or teapot, and no minibar. It didn't feel like a four-star hotel at all. We booked it for my wife's birthday, and I wouldn't recommend staying here. EDIT: The hotel's response says they offered to change my room. That's a lie. I asked every day for three days, and again before checking out early, and each time they said there was no room available. It's dishonest to claim otherwise afterward. Avoid this place.
