Hostal Verdemar

My son thought this place was awful and unacceptable, while I found it okay. It was the worst place we stayed, but for one night it was just about acceptable, especially at such a low price. There's everything you need, though it's all rather worn and the bathroom needs refurbishing. Parking is in an open lot not far away, costs less than €3 a night, and can be full.

We only ended up here because everywhere else was booked, and I didn't really enjoy the stay. The bathroom was cramped, had no toilet paper, and its door wouldn't close. The sheets weren't the best, though the room was clean.

The guy at reception was very helpful and spoke decent English, which was useful since my Spanish is basic at best. There are three wifi addresses to choose from depending on where you are in the building. Parking is a hassle: don't trust your satnav, there's almost no parking nearby, and the closest public car park is 200m away. It costs €2.30 for 24 hours. The Hostal is on the first floor of what looks like an apartment block, with steps up to a lift that doesn't work. For €40, the room was small and basic, but I still expected hot water. I've spent enough time taking cold showers in the military, and my wife felt even more strongly about it. She said the bed smelled damp and the room smelled of wee. I couldn't smell it myself, but I'm a man, and maybe we're not that sensitive. I probably wouldn't stay here again.

The bathroom is tiny, and my shower floods it. Getting around is easy, though, and the airport bus is five minutes away.
