The best thing about Can Cocollona was how welcome I felt. The staff were kind and helpful, and the other guests were open and friendly. I really enjoyed my three days there during my trip to Girona. I arrived by bus, and the hostel was easy to find, very close to both the bus and train stations. The neighborhood was quiet and pleasant, a nice place to unwind after walking around the city. My room had a balcony, a small detail that made it even nicer, and the Wi-Fi worked well. There was also a shared kitchen for cooking, which was handy when I didn't want to eat out all the time. The price was affordable and well worth it. Breakfast was tasty and generous, with sandwiches, croissants, eggs, cereal, milk, tea and coffee. It was a good start to the morning before exploring Girona.

It was easy to meet guests here, and I chatted with people ranging from about 20 to 70 during my stay. The hostel is close to the station and only a short walk from the centre. My room and the bathrooms were impressively clean, which made the comfortable stay even better. The welcome was warm, the amenities were good, and I’d definitely recommend it.

I found it easy to meet other travellers in the pleasant shared room, and breakfast was nice too. The staff were lovely, and the rooms are basic but clean, with very clean bathrooms. It’s just outside the historic centre, around a 10-minute walk, and also very close to the train and bus stations. Thanks for a lovely stay!

The owner eventually moved me into the private room I had originally booked, but only after I spent the first night in a different room I hadn’t agreed to. I asked for a refund for that night on my last day and said I would fill out a claim form if needed. In WhatsApp, she told me the hostel no longer had paper forms because claims could be made online. She then tried to make me feel guilty about reporting the matter to the authorities, saying she hosted people with social problems and that I would be a bad person if I complained. I never saw anyone with social problems staying there during my week, and another guest who had stayed longer than me said the same. I suspect that explanation was another attempt to stop me reporting her. Here’s what happened: I had booked a private room for six nights. On arrival, the owner said it wasn’t available and offered a slightly cheaper private room, leaving me feeling I had no choice but to accept. That room was in her own house, not the hostel. Inside, the first thing I saw was a cluttered storage room, and the bathroom smelled of mold. The room wasn’t listed on the website or Hostelworld, so I believe it was being rented illegally. The next day I complained that it wasn’t the room I’d reserved and raised the mold, other quality problems, and the fact it wasn’t part of the hostel. The owner reacted aggressively. I asked for €10 back as an apology, but she refused and told me I could leave if I didn’t like it. I believe this is a regular overbooking practice to maximize profits. Other Google reviews describe similar experiences, and when people complain, she treats them as if they are at fault. This needs to stop.

I stayed here on a few different occasions in August and September, and it was spotless every time, even when busy. The staff work hard and are lovely, and I met some cool people of different ages. There’s a pleasant little garden with a secure place to lock your bike, so it’s very bike-friendly. Breakfast is included and really nice. The train station and supermarkets are very close, and there’s a direct bus to the airport. Looking forward to coming back. Cheers!
