The house stays cool in hot weather thanks to its thick walls, and the private swimming hole with a waterfall on the river is gorgeous. It's a tranquil gem and an ideal base for naturalists who want to enjoy nature away from crowds. The house is spacious, with Moorish-influenced architecture and beautiful patios facing every direction, so you can enjoy them at different times of day. In cooler weather, it can feel damp and drafty, though hot showers, heated mattress pads, and heaters in the living and dining rooms help. Getting there means carrying your luggage for 5 minutes and managing rough outdoor steps and steep stairs inside, so you need to be fit enough for that.

The natural pool on the property and the tranquility make this a fantastic location, and the house itself is spectacular once you get there. Getting from the car to the house can be difficult because of the distance and stairs. Some newer PVC windows are fitted, but others are original wood without screens or any barrier against temperature changes or insects. One transition area is open to the air except for unglazed panels, and I had a small battle with a wasp there. Replacing a few windows and the main entrance door shouldn't cost much, and would improve the house enough to make it more suitable for year-round rentals. This is meant as constructive criticism. We couldn't get the oven to work despite following the instructions exactly and trying other methods, so we don't know if it was broken or if we were just clumsy.
