The building and its imagery made the stay feel unique and memorable, and the staff added just as much to its charm. They were welcoming and helpful. The rooms have a somewhat austere look that suits the monastery, but they're clean and comfortable, with Wi-Fi and a TV.

Staying in a monastery was a lovely surprise. The staff were friendly and courteous, and the view felt warm and castle-like, with a medieval atmosphere. It wasn't too crowded, yet it was close to places to go, including restaurants and a disco.

Staying at a hotel that's also a UNESCO World Heritage Site is a rare experience. The Hospederia is a little dated, but beautiful, and gives you a sense of what life in the monastery might have been like centuries ago. On a spring morning, waking to fresh air, cooing doves, and traditional Spanish architecture brought back memories of my childhood in New Mexico.
