Palacete Magistral Dominguez

I’d ended up at a hotel I wasn’t happy with after a taxi driver told me it was the only place with an open room. Since I was in Guadix during the off season, I looked around and found Palacate Magistral Dominguez. I checked it out the following day and liked what I saw enough to book three nights. I had the entire third floor to myself. The interior is lovely, especially the thoughtful design touches and window treatments.

Our booking was confirmed, but when we arrived they wouldn’t let us stay.

For cycling around the area, this was a great base. I worked from the house too, and the rooms were spacious and quiet, with incredibly fast internet. There’s also plenty of secure space to keep bikes. The region has lots of unusual, peaceful places to explore by bike. The building itself feels magical, with charm in every corner, and it stays cool and quiet even at the height of summer. Víctor is a lovely host who does all he can to help you feel at home. It felt more like visiting a lifelong friend than staying at an ordinary hotel. Calling it a hotel hardly covers the experience.

There’s parking right next door, and the cathedral is only a stone’s throw away. The house is enormous, with several rooms, and was spotless. It’s an old place, but has what you need. Our room had a private bathroom, while the kitchen and living room are shared. There’s air conditioning in all the rooms, though it stays cool enough that we barely needed it, and it’s very quiet. Victor was such a charming, kind host. He even let us leave my little dog in the house while we went out for dinner. She’s tiny and silent, though people often assume we leave her home alone. The patio is beautiful, and the house feels really homely. We’d definitely recommend it.
