Posada Valle de Guriezo

The host was very friendly, and it’s well placed on the Camino for breaking up the walk between Castro and Laredo. But I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re over 180cm tall. The bed and shower were cramped, and my feet pressed against the end of the bed all night. It was also very cold in the room and I struggled to sleep, though luckily I had a spare blanket scarf and sleeping bag liner. There was some road noise too. For washing, I only had a bar of soap and a sachet of shower gel. Refillable handwash would have been better.

Mar welcomed us warmly when we stayed for a night on our Camino journey. The house has plenty of rustic charm, and everything was clean and just right for what we needed. We had one of the most restful, quiet nights of our trip so far. The view was lovely too, with sheep grazing in the field behind the house. I can’t understand the complaint about the uncomfortable bed; we’ve slept in much worse places for twice the price. It’s a family home that Mar renovated to host pilgrims and travellers. Breakfast is available, though we skipped it. I’d definitely come back and recommend the place.

The proprietor was gracious and helpful, and we’d happily stay again. It’s a lovely guesthouse with comfortable beds and hot showers.
