We hadn’t planned to visit this part of Spain, but after spotting this place on Google Maps, my friend and I drove over from France. The hotel sits on a little hill above the river and Hijar, and arriving late in the evening made the setting feel quite different. In the morning, after breakfast, we went out to explore and were surprised by the landscape. It completely captivated us. A unique experience, and a really special kind of tourism, far from the part of Spain people usually visit.

A disaster of a stay. The room felt like it belonged in 1900, and the bathroom shower was much too cramped. There was no TV, hairdryer, or shower gel, and every sound from nearby carried through the room. I can’t understand how this place gets such good reviews. It’s one of the worst places I’ve ever slept.

The food was exceptional, homemade and clearly cooked with care, and the staff treated us wonderfully. It’s a peaceful place to switch off and take walks nearby, with lovely views and an area to park. The rooms are small, but they have everything you need.

The couple who run the place are friendly and very attentive, and they make an effort to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. Breakfast was good and plentiful enough. The rooms are clean and comfortable, each with a private bathroom, though the facilities are simple rather than luxurious. It’s worth knowing this was or is a place for spiritual exercises. Set on a hill, it looks out over much of the region.

The rooms are rustic and small, but they work well. Breakfast and lunch were served pleasantly and were good. Most of the products are local, and Mrs. Pilar provided outstanding service.
