My two sisters and I arrived at your hotel on Friday at 21:00 hoping to book a room, but we didn’t have a reservation. The place was closed, and I couldn’t make a booking through my account because my credit card wouldn’t work. The door was shut, and nobody responded to phone calls, emails, or texts from reception. We ended up sleeping in the car.

The breakfast conservatory has an amazing view across to France, and the managers were always ready to help. They knew the area well, recommended good restaurants and places to visit, and went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. We stayed four nights at Hotel Bista Eder, and it suited us perfectly. It’s an older house with a warm, charming, homely feel. The hill into town is steep, though all that good Hondaribbia food makes the walk useful! We’d return if Australia weren’t so far away.

Breakfast was great, with eggs, meat and sausage, cheese, bread, croissants, coffee, and juice. This Belgian-themed pension sits in a quiet part of Hondarribia, around 12 minutes on foot from the main restaurants and 17 minutes from the old walled town. There’s a beautiful view from the hotel over Hondarribia and Hendaye in France.

The kitchen and living room make for a cozy rural home, and the staff are friendly. Bista Eder has amazing bay views from a privileged spot, though it’s a bit far from the center, about an 8 minute walk.
