The restaurant next door serves really good food at reasonable prices, and there are plenty of restaurants and sights nearby. This charming hotel sits inside the old walled city, with a Michelin-starred restaurant just outside it within easy walking distance. It’s good value and nicely priced, and breakfast is served. Parking is limited but cheap, around 10€ a night. The stairs are wide and not steep, though there’s no elevator. Some nights, outside activity can be noisy until 11 pm.

The staff were kind and helpful, with useful suggestions about the city, places to visit, and where to eat. They also accommodated my request. I spent a couple of days sightseeing in the area and stayed at this small, charming hotel in a medieval palace in the historic center of Hondarribia. The architecture and location are distinctive. Breakfast was very good, including eggs made to order. I visited in low season, so it was quiet and the price was reasonable. There’s no indoor parking, but a few street spaces can be reserved. The old building has no elevator, and you’ll need to use stairs to reach reception and some rooms. I’m not sure if this is only in low season, but there was no reception staff at night during my stay. A very nice place to stay while enjoying medieval Hondarribia.

The little plaza outside has two good bars serving great food, and the town is one of my favorites in the region. There’s also a short, easy boat ride to Hendeye, France. We came back to Hotel Obispo after five years, and it was just as wonderful: a great location, lovely staff, comfortable rooms, and a fine breakfast. I don’t remember crepes being offered on our first visit, so that was a nice addition. The elevator is still absent, and my wife didn’t pack lighter this time. Luckily, there were only two flights of stairs, and we only had to carry the luggage up once. It’s manageable.

The building is beautiful and the location is ideal. The hotel itself is cute, and the room was comfortable. There are lots of stairs and no elevator, so hauling suitcases up three flights is a bit of a challenge. If you plan to eat there, expect dinner to take about two hours. With just three tables occupied, our server still came by only every 30 minutes, and the food took ages.
