The Standard, Ibiza

Carlos made me feel comfortable throughout my stay. He was kind, funny and very helpful, with great suggestions for food and places to visit. He deserves a raise! The hotel's location and service are amazing. The bathroom counter and floors did have some grime, though, and could have been cleaned better.

We keep coming back to celebrate our anniversary, and this was our second visit. The staff made the occasion feel even more special. The hotel is downtown, near shops and restaurants that stay open through the winter off-season, when we usually visit. The room was lovely, the bed and pillows super comfortable, and the amenities showed great attention to detail. My husband especially liked the original light switches and asked the front desk where to get them. They said they'd find out. We left without thinking much more of it, then the next day, after we were back in Valencia, an email arrived with all the information. That's excellent customer service. The rooftop is incredible, the best in Ibiza Old Town, and the hotel's location can't be beat. It's right by the port and taxi rank, in the middle of town among the restaurants, bars and shops. The rooms are so-so, but the bathroom is good, and there's a coffee machine and balcony views, really all you need. Check-in went well, and the two guys were really friendly. After that, though, nobody at reception smiled when we came or went. One woman there looked down on everyone and was just plain awful. It felt like guests were beneath the reception team. Breakfast on the street terrace was great, and the waiters and rooftop staff were very nice. I'd stay again and ignore the surly reception.

I really don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. For us, this place lived up to its name: standard in every way. The rooms were small, boxy and overpriced, though we're used to that in Ibiza. The pillows were far too soft, and so was the bed. It was January, and the noise outside was so loud that the room soundproofing seemed very limited, maybe nonexistent. Between that and the soft bedding, I didn't get any rest at all, and a quiet weekend was all we wanted. I can't imagine staying in summer. Reception didn't even ask how the stay was, though trust me, I would've told them. I'm sorry, guys, but we were properly disappointed in the rooms. I was really looking forward to making this a regular spot on the island, but I wouldn't stay again.
