The beach right beside the hotel was one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen, and the food around Isla Cristina was spectacular. The place has a typical old Spanish feel with a newer apartment-hotel setup. Staff were nice and spoke at least four languages fairly well, but there was little to no follow-up service. The pool felt odd, with nowhere to sit and cut off from everything else. It also seemed some of the estate’s surrounding homes were long-term rentals or privately owned. We booked at the last minute and paid €300 a night for a one-bedroom room with a tiny balcony that just misses the sunset, room 103 in August. The area was great, but the price was hard to swallow.

The location worked perfectly for us, at the last complex before the village. There’s parking outside the complex too, while on-site parking costs an extra €7-€10 a day depending on the season. The pool is empty from October 1, and there are no sun loungers in the garden. Cleaning is once a week. Reception is closed, so you pick up the keys and register at the Leo Hotel by the village entrance. Early check-in and late check-out each cost an extra €20. Ask for two sets of keys, since you need them to get in and out of the complex.

I’ve stayed at other Leo apartments and never had this kind of experience. The receptionist was really friendly and the apartment had good equipment, but the cleanliness was awful. There was a horrible tobacco smell as soon as we walked in, dirty table and chairs that I had to clean myself, filthy floors, and sand in the toilet. The sheets smelled strongly of tobacco too and were dirty. Security also worried me. A neighbor had recently had all his beach gear, including an umbrella and chairs, taken from inside the complex. The main entrance is a large garage door with a remote, plus a smaller gate that needs a key. Everyone used the garage door because it was easier to open with a button, but it took ages to open and close, letting people from outside get in while it was open. We paid €10 a day to park inside because we thought it would be safer. I wouldn’t do that again or recommend it.

Such a pity, because the complex itself is beautiful and well looked after. The apartments seem neglected and haven’t been renovated in years. Cleanliness was the worst part: there were food scraps in the oven when we arrived, and the terrace couldn’t be used. The table and chairs were filthy too.

The bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen, and terrace were all spotless. The complex is made up of apartments with several rooms, each fully equipped and recently renovated, so everything felt new. It’s very well maintained and would work great for families or groups of friends. Highly recommended.
