Casa Rufino Iznajar by Ruralidays

The host’s rudeness was the main reason for our low rating. We’ve stayed in many rural guesthouses, and this was easily our worst experience. At Casa Rufino, the air conditioners didn’t work, the pillows were very thin, there was dirt in the corners, the lighting was weak and the rooms were poorly laid out. The house was cleaner when we left than when we arrived.

The pillows are so thin they’re like paper, and I got stuck in the pool bathroom because there was no handle on the inside. Luckily, other people were nearby. There are some positives: the pool was large and very clean, and the spacious, bright house has several common areas that work well for a big group. But it gets very hot inside, especially at midday, and the pool area has no shade. There wasn’t enough air conditioning in the bedrooms for everyone, and the electricity supply wasn’t enough for 16 people. If several air conditioners are running alongside the stovetop or dishwasher, the breakers trip. You can’t reset them yourself, so you have to call the owner. The house has good points, but I wouldn’t come back.

The worst part was the owner, Mr. Andrés. He was rude, disrespectful, and a bad host. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS HOUSE! The house is large, with spacious bedrooms, but it’s badly laid out and uncomfortable for a big group. Some bedroom air conditioners didn’t work, and the ones that did couldn’t all run at once because there wasn’t enough contracted power. The circuit breakers tripped, and you had to call the owner to come reset them because guests couldn’t access the fuse boxes. That meant waiting without power. The kitchen is far from the pool, there’s no living room big enough for everyone, and the pool area has almost no shade or umbrellas. It would be roasting to eat outside, while indoors it’s horribly hot and the living room is too small. The pillows were awful, like tissue paper. Cleaning was mediocre, with cobwebs in every corner and spiders that seemed to have moved in. The pool bathroom door is broken and has no inside handle, so if it closes, you can’t get out unless someone pushes it from outside.

I spent several days at Casa Rufino in Los Juncares, Iznájar (Córdoba), and really enjoyed the peaceful rural setting. The terrace was lovely in the evenings, perfect for relaxing on the lounge chairs or playing table tennis. The house is cozy and welcoming, with spacious rooms, and everything was clean and in excellent condition. The kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and laundry rooms are all fully equipped. Andrés was friendly and attentive, making sure everything was just how we wanted it. I recommend it for a few pleasant days with family or friends.
