SBH Maxorata Resort

I was a little nervous after reading the mixed reviews, but my short solo break at SBH at the end of March 2026 was lovely. Some parts look a bit tired and could use refurbishment, though that didn't negatively affect my stay. Housekeeping deserves 10/10. My room was cleaned daily no matter when I went out, and I came back to a made bed and fresh towels each time. Everyone was amazing, from the housekeepers to the attentive, friendly bartenders even when busy, and the hardworking waitstaff. Empty glasses rarely stayed on tables for long. The food was what you'd expect from a standard all-inclusive, nothing special but perfectly fine. Drinks had plenty of choice, including English and Italian options, cocktails, and shots. The animation team made the days by the pool and evenings enjoyable. Special mention to Luca, Isa, Moris, and Minea. They deserve recognition. I had a great stay and would personally return. The negative comments seemed exaggerated to me.

The beach panorama is probably the hotel's biggest asset, and the pools were clean, though the poolside needs some attention. Kitchen staff were friendly, polite, and worked really hard, and I enjoyed the food with its good variety. I don't usually rely on reviews when booking, since expectations differ, but some of the negatives would have made me avoid this hotel. If transfers come with your package, I'd consider paying for a taxi instead. The stated one-hour airport trip took two hours by coach after all the drop-offs. The hotel looked tired on arrival and could use touch-ups, though it wasn't dreadful. Reception was chaotic and disorganised. The woman there gave us no details about the two restaurants that need advance bookings, and couldn't even tell us where our room was, so we asked a cleaner. Staff seemed to struggle under pressure and could be quite rude. The manager rolled his eyes when I asked for a towel and spare pillow, since the bed had only one very thin pillow. If you can afford a bit more, I'd choose another hotel.

We had a lovely, relaxed week in an all-inclusive swim-up room, with our own private space and the added convenience of being able to swim right from it. The location was great, the staff were helpful, and the place was clean and tidy. Cleaning was done daily, and the restaurant offered a varied menu for different needs. We'd certainly visit again.

Maxorata is unfortunately falling apart. We visited last year, and it looks as though nothing has been done since the refurbishment almost a decade ago. Our rooms were dated and badly needed an upgrade, and rubbish had been sitting in the corridors since the day before. Jorge at reception was lovely and told us occupancy was only 1/3, so it was very quiet. While I was at reception, it became clear that guests are put in the worst rooms and then offered better ones for €15-50 extra per night. On top of that, the room safe costs €4.50 a day to use. A hotel should want guests to leave happy and come back, but we won't be returning. SBH management should focus on customer care and quality instead of quick profit.
