Parador De Jarandilla De La Vera

The beds were comfortable, though a little small. This old castle has an impressive history and has been lovingly turned into a comfortable hotel, with a great bar and restaurant. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Andrea was outstanding and helped us choose wine and food. The room was very good, and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful too. Staying in this castle felt like a unique experience. I especially enjoyed being among mostly Spanish-speaking visitors and getting to experience Spanish culture and village life. There was a local festival with a street procession, bull running, and a big party with the locals.

We had dinner in the interior courtyard, where the weather was warm enough. The food, service, and atmosphere were excellent. The Parador opened in 1966 and was originally the 14th-century castle of the Counts of Oropesa. The two rooms we rented were small but comfortable, with nice decor. Both bathrooms had jetted tubs, though I didn’t get a chance to try them, and there was a lovely large pool I wish it had been warm enough to use.

We stayed for two nights and loved it. The spacious rooms had comfortable beds and big bathrooms, and the pool was a peaceful place overlooking the parador. There’s a lovely historic patio with cafés and restaurants, all with great food and service. If you’re after a castle with plenty of history, come here!
