Hotel RH Jerez Centro

The room had no water, the mini fridge didn’t work, and I had to pay 10 euros for two litres. The terrace loungers were very worn, and the walls were stained. There was a bad sewage smell coming through the AC vents, which could possibly be a health hazard. The restaurant felt like something from the Soviet era. With no bar or service and only one staff member on duty, this felt more like a hostel than a hotel. We’ve still got two more days to endure. If you want a relaxing stay in Jerez, go somewhere else.

The bathroom was nicely presented, and the room was clean with comfortable beds. Breakfast had lots to choose from, including fried eggs, bacon, tortilla, ham, cheeses and fresh fruit. Reception was quick and clearly explained what we needed to know. We had a fourth-floor room with a large, private terrace and a great view from the roof. The downside was how little space remained inside: the bed, small desk and step up to the terrace left very little room to move around. The hotel is in a great spot in the city centre and has underground parking.

The central location is about the only thing this hotel has going for it. Its four-star rating feels wildly overstated, and the worn rooms look like they’ve barely moved on from the 1980s. There was an old mini-fridge and a huge oak wall unit to match. Our first room was unbearably hot, around 40 degrees Celsius by feel, because the AC didn’t work, and we couldn’t sleep. There wasn’t even bottled water in the room. After we complained at 3:00 AM, they gave us water for free and moved us to a “premium” room. It was just as bad. At least its window opened, unlike the first room’s window onto an inner courtyard, which left the room terribly stuffy. But the replacement was on the second floor, facing the main street, where traffic and the cobblestone road were so loud that sleep was still impossible. We’re sleepless in Jerez, and especially disappointed given this is a well-known hotel chain.

We got around Jerez on foot and didn’t need a car at all. The hotel is well placed for that, and the front desk staff were friendly. They suggested things to do, including a flamenco show we really enjoyed. Our room was spacious and clean, with a big closet and a safe. The shower had strong pressure, though its tilted head made it awkward to use. The AC struggled with the humidity, but we had two keys, so we could leave it running while we were out. I’d happily stay here again.
