Cabañas Jimera de Líbar

The location by the river is amazing, and it puts you close to incredible natural spots like Cueva del Gato and the river pool near the train station. We stayed with family near the end of June, and the area was drier than I'd expected for that time of year. A difficult experience with the owner at the end put a bit of a damper on our stay.

The owner and the other staff member were friendly and attentive, and the bathrooms and campsite were very clean. There’s also a pool for campers, a river beside the site, and plenty of trees. With fewer people around, it’s a relaxing spot, and we’d consider coming back in low season when prices are lower. Finding the campsite wasn’t easy, especially with Google Maps. The photos showed lots of grass, but that turned out to be a lounging area; tents go on dusty ground. We arrived Sunday, after many people had left, so we had plenty of room. The tent area itself is small, though, and I imagine campers would be packed closer together when it’s busy. We paid €20 for two people, a car, and a tent, which felt a little steep. We couldn’t park beside the tent and had to go up and down stairs to get things from the car, so paying to bring it into the campsite didn’t feel worthwhile.

This was a great spot for spending time close to nature, with beautiful scenery along the way and villages nearby for supermarket shopping. It’s only 20 kms from Ronda. The room was cosy and nicely furnished, with the facilities we needed, including a fridge, microwave, stove, and plenty of kitchen utensils. It would suit two adults and one or perhaps two children better than four adults. We were very happy with our stay.

The gates were shut when we arrived at 18:00 on 29 Nov. I phoned and was told they only open at weekends. Luckily, there’s a great free village stopover for about five vans, with waste and water, and everything was really clean. Magic happens.
