AC Som Hotel by Marriott

The staff made a big impression on me. My plane landed at 8am and I reached the hotel around 10:30, hoping just to leave my luggage, but the team got me checked in early so I could shower and rest after the long flight from the US West Coast. Everyone, from the front desk and bar to housekeeping, was pleasant and went out of their way to help. It felt like management cared about the team. We spent 13 days at the AC Hotel Som while vacationing in Barcelona. We wanted a familiar worldwide brand, convenient access to the airport and city centre by bus or metro, taxis or Uber nearby, and some local character with restaurants and shops. AC Som had what we were looking for. It was modern but still had the European feel we wanted. The rooms were a little smaller than US rooms, but just right for the two of us, and had great accessories. I loved the relaxed lobby, with tables, a bar, and great drinks and food. My nightly ritual was a Coke Zero there, looking at the Christmas Tree and listening to Christmas music. I don't drink much alcohol, but there was a full bar. It was my first Christmas away from friends and family, and that detail helped me feel festive. Also, the dips with the French Fries are amazing, seriously. The hotel delivered on what we hoped for, and I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Barcelona. If I come back, I'd stay here again.

We liked the rooms, but the service is what really sets AC Soms apart. Marjan spent ages helping us with personal advice and making sure we had what we needed to explore the city. He was a huge part of why our trip went so well. The rest of the staff were just as friendly and accommodating, with great food suggestions and tips on things to do. We were so impressed that we canceled our reservation at the hotel we'd booked for our return and immediately booked AC Soms again. If you're going to Barcelona, stay here. Highly recommend.

The lobby and room were modern and nice, but the stay felt mediocre for a Marriott elite member. At check-in, the night desk agent didn't acknowledge my Marriott Bonvoy Titanium status or offer a warm greeting. We had to remind him about our status before he offered the welcome amenity. The standard Platinum welcome gift here is 500 points or an 8.50 euro discount on the breakfast buffet. I left underwhelmed by the service.

Breakfast was decent, and the staff were helpful and friendly. The rooms were modern, a reasonable size, and had a nice bathroom. The gym is tiny, though it has the basics for a short stay and a quick workout.
