Barceló Corralejo Bay - Adults only

This was my fourth visit, and the care from staff across every department keeps bringing me back. Everyone is so helpful, and there's a real personal touch. Leah Babikova, the Guest Experience Manager, deserves a special mention. She remembers us each time and always makes time for us. Thanks to the whole team for working so hard to make the hotel feel like a home away from home. Rooms are spacious, clean and up to date, with plenty of room to relax and sleep, and the balconies are a good size. The food has a wide range to suit different tastes at every meal.

The mattress was the one real problem for me. It sagged noticeably on one side and left my back sore enough that I needed to see a chiropractor afterwards. For English speakers, the TV choices were also limited, mostly news channels, which was a small but noticeable drawback since I like to unwind with familiar shows. Even so, I'd absolutely return. The food, cleanliness, service, pool and peaceful feel made for a five-star experience, and next time I'll hope for a firmer bed and maybe plan a massage after the holiday. The service around the hotel was incredible, warm and welcoming, and everything was spotless. I loved the calm pool area and the snack bar beside it. The atmosphere leaned older, more 60-plus than party crowd. It sometimes felt like a luxury retirement retreat, but I liked the quiet mornings, relaxed afternoons and lack of loud late-night noise. I'd never tried half board before, and dinner surpassed what I expected. Monday's Mexican night had juicy, flavourful burritos made fresh. Tuesday's international buffet had a Chinese station with succulent fried rice, vegetables and meat, with a surprisingly authentic taste. Wednesday's Italian night was another highlight, and I went back several times for fresh pasta with a jug of sangria. Desserts included mousse, cheesecakes, brownies, ice cream, fresh fruit and plenty more. The 'just one' sweets turned into several, and we may have taken a few extras for later. Breakfast set a great tone for the holiday from the first morning. I made a habit of going straight to the omelette station, where chefs cooked to order efficiently and warmly. They were friendly, and service stayed smooth even when it was busy. The generous, nicely presented buffet had fresh fruit, crusty bread, pastries, granola and cereal, smoothies, juices and a mimosa station. Every morning started on such a positive note that it shaped the mood of the trip. The small spa was worth a mention, too. For around €17, you could spend 90 minutes there, which felt like good value and a nice way to unwind. My friend had a massage and unfortunately didn't enjoy it, so that part may be hit or miss.

The pool areas were amazing and well maintained, and our room was spotless, luxurious, with a comfortable bed and modern bathroom. The cleaning staff do an excellent job keeping the hotel in pristine shape. All the staff were helpful and courteous, with a special mention for Julia in Guest Relations and bar staff Bruno and Tryss. The Barcelo hotel is close to Corralejo's old town, with the beach less than 50 metres away. Highly recommend it for a relaxing break.

We've still got three days left and are looking forward to more fun. Tomorrow we've booked the pottery class, then it's poolside relaxing and another walk into town and down to the docks. We loved the breakfast and the different dinner themes each night, and the evening entertainment has something for everyone. Last night was a fabulous Flamenco performance, and last week we saw She United, which was wonderful. The staff have looked after us so well. Special mention to Frederico, Dori and Ana, and all the others. Our room is amazing, with a whirlpool tub, and everyone has been friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed Tuesday's aqua fit with Emmeline, a fantastic instructor who made it fun and gave us a good workout. The painting session was lovely, too. We got personal tips on techniques and a great souvenir to take home. We did the pottery class as well, and it was fab! Kitty taught us some cool techniques, and we made pots and trays to take home. A lovely way to relax and get creative. Thanks, Kitty! We love our holiday at Barcelo Bay Hotel so far and look forward to coming back.
