The room’s blinds wouldn’t open, and my friend, who’s allergic to dogs, started reacting badly as soon as we got inside. We asked the man at reception whether there were dogs in the hotel. He wasn’t the person in charge and didn’t speak Spanish, so he called the owner, who said there were no dogs on our floor. That clearly didn’t match what was happening to my friend, who was feeling very unwell. We ended up leaving and finding another hotel at 10 pm with three kids. We called the owner, but he didn’t offer a refund. The way we were treated was awful from the start. The man at reception was very unpleasant when we arrived, and I’ve never been spoken to so rudely. The place is VERY EXPENSIVE for what it is.

The room was okay for the price, but a rude staff member made the stay miserable. We’d paid for a bigger room, yet he told us, more or less, not to touch the extra beds. I’ve never been told I couldn’t use things in a room I’d paid for. After all the cursing and stress, he finally said “welcome.” What a joke. In 18 months of travelling, that was easily the worst hotel welcome we’d had. There was no one at reception when we arrived, and we waited 40 minutes. When the man showed up, he was irritable and standoffish right away. Our booking said pets were free, but he still insisted we pay extra for our dog. We paid, but he had no change. He gave us no receipt and said he’d return what he owed us. He kept muttering curse words in Spanish while we dealt with him, and we never got the change. It’s cheap, but that rude, arrogant staff member ruined the stay.

Ramon, if I’ve got his name right, at the front desk was so welcoming and helpful when I stopped during a bike trip. His English was way better than my Spanish or Catalan, too. The room was clean and comfortable, with enough space for me, my bike, and all the bags. A great budget stay.

The beds were so comfortable I didn’t want to get up. For a two-star hotel in Sant Carles, this place is really great. It’s ideally located for whatever you might be here to do, and the staff are helpful well beyond what you’d expect. The hotel is run so well that I can’t imagine anyone having cause to complain. I’d recommend it to anyone staying in Sant Carles.
