Hotel Flor de la Mancha

Breakfast at 0645, with the place open from 0500, was quite a show, with all sorts of interesting locals around. We didn't run into any of the problems mentioned in the earlier negative or partly negative reviews. The place had loads of character, our room was spacious, spotless, and completely functional, and both the food and service were excellent.

The service was just as expected, fast and perfect. We were there as a group of 6, so I can speak for all the food we got. Starters and soups were fine, and the main courses were great, but the desserts were awful. The worst part was the artificial "whipped cream" served with them. Spain has superb heavy creme in every store, so please just buy those whipped cream bottles and chargers and make it fresh.

The room, bathroom, and bed were good, but the restaurant food was really poor. My Macaroni Bolognese arrived cold and was cooked far too long. The fries served with the Croquettas were old. The food didn't seem fresh in general. It seemed like meals were cooked ahead and reheated in a microwave.

We stayed two nights in the mini-suite. The welcome at reception was kind and professional, even though they were quite busy. The bed was large, comfortable, and fairly clean, and breakfast was really good, with toasted bread, smashed tomato, and olive oil. The location was decent too, just 10 minutes on foot from the city centre. The room still didn't meet our expectations and wasn't properly maintained. At night there were small black bugs running around, drinks in the minibar were expired, the toilet paper was dirty, and there was only one tiny bottle of shower gel for 2 guests. Soundproofing was lacking too. They have room to improve, but I'd give them another chance.
