Hotel SPA El Lagar de Isilla

The power cut across Spain happened on the day we arrived, but the hotel got its own generator running quickly, which was lucky for us. The reception staff were pleasant. What spoiled the stay were the two women behind the bar: they seemed annoyed to be interrupted by customers, serving us with scowls and shrugs even though we spoke Spanish. We gave up on eating at the restaurant or trying the wine tasting because of how unpleasant they were. Staff at the bar and restaurant of the hotel next door were friendly, so we ate and drank there and only slept at this hotel. I hope management speaks with the bar staff, because they represent the business and made what could have been an enjoyable stay feel disappointing. The hotel itself has spacious, comfortable themed rooms, and everything was very clean. The bed was huge and the towels fluffy.

The restaurant food was pretty good, though the locals' enthusiasm makes sense if you're keen on pork belly torrezno and other meats. The spa downstairs has a fun wine-making-process tour built into it, with interesting jets, although the spa could have been maintained better. The rooms are all different and decorated in an interesting way, but I found the lighting confusing and the beds rock hard. I barely slept.

After a long drive, having a two-person jacuzzi in the room was such a treat. The room itself was spacious and lovely, decorated with wine bottles in all sorts of shapes. We also loved the spa, the delicious T-bone at dinner, and the view across the vineyards. We had a great stay and will definitely come back.

The rooms were beautifully decorated, the beds comfortable, and the hotel was clean and in perfect condition throughout. Staff were very attentive, and the restaurant and bar downstairs were amazing. We had a perfect stay, better than we expected, and this is one of the best hotels we've stayed in. Thanks for a great visit, and compliments to the hotel team. We'll be back.
