We did get one of the rooms shown on Booking.com in the end, but it was the least appealing of those choices. For a double or twin, the site showed four options, and we were assigned a fifth that wasn't listed. I asked if a better room was available, but the larger, brighter ones had already gone, even though I'd booked three days ahead.

Breakfast was delicious and began at a handy time for early pilgrims, and there’s a nice restaurant nearby. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the Via de la Plata. Our room had plenty of space and the shower pressure was great, though it smelled of smoke despite smoking being prohibited indoors.

There was no one on site at 3 pm, and service was basically absent. They use a virtual receptionist, with staff only there in the morning, so there was no access to hot water or other help. The room had just the basics, and the shower had nowhere to set soap or shampoo. It drained so badly that toiletries ended up sitting in bath water. The place is outside the city center.

After a long, tough day of walking, arriving at 4 pm to find nobody there to open the door or handle check-in was rough. It was all done by video, and took ages.

The room was really clean and nice, though a little dark. Staff were very helpful, and there’s a huge supermercado close by. Recommended.
