Pura Vida Las Palmas

I only stayed one night at Pura Vida, but I enjoyed it enough to book a longer stay next time I’m in Gran Canaria. The beach is only steps away, and both the staff and other guests made me feel welcome. Many people I spoke with had stayed there or volunteered before, so it’s clear they like coming back. It has a relaxed, easygoing community, and people are happy to help if you need it. The room was comfortable, with comfy beds and good airflow, so it didn’t get too hot at night. There are lockers, but bring a padlock. I forgot mine. I also liked the terrace areas. Thanks, Pura Vida, I’ll be back!

The location is the only good thing about this hostel. The old, shabby bunks made it feel overrated, and construction next door started at 8 am with awful noise and a crane hanging over the terrace. After one night, I got sick. They leave all the windows open overnight, so humidity and dust get into your lungs. I started coughing, and Miguel told me I had to leave because other guests were complaining. He didn’t care whether I was okay or where I’d spend the night. I have a transplanted kidney and take immunosuppressants. I was glad to leave that miserable place. Later, the hostel sent me an ugly message blaming me for sharing my opinion on Google and threatening never to accept me at any of their hostels. I don’t understand how this kind of discriminatory, delusional behavior is still in business. Don’t go there!

The rooms are spacious, with big beds and comfortable mattresses, and there are large shared areas where you can spend time with other travelers. The hostel was always clean and tidy. All the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Miguel. Really nice and cozy.

It’s easy to get a good night’s sleep here. The hostel gets very quiet after 11 pm, and the atmosphere is comfortable and friendly. Miguel is a charming, thoughtful host. You can join the group activities or have some time to yourself, and people respect what you prefer. There’s a large kitchen, two terraces, and everything else you need. The ocean is close by, and surfboards are available to rent.
