Hotel Palacio Oxangoiti

The owner was very pleasant and helpful, and the location and view from our Juliet balcony were great. The room was large, but the shower stall and bathroom felt small, so check the size. It's an old building, from 16??, so character is expected, but the decor felt like the 1970s. For what they charge, I expected better. The night before we paid half as much, and I would have been happy paying this price for that room. Breakfast was a croissant in a little plastic bag, which I really didn't like. I just wish the owner would put some money into the decor.

The receptionist was very helpful and suggested villages to visit that we wouldn't have found on our own. This is a thoughtfully decorated 17th-century building that became a hotel in 2008, with quality throughout and no cheap Ikea renovation. If you like the character of old buildings, you'll enjoy it. The bed linen wasn't thick enough for our taste, and breakfast was sparse, with limited choice and products that weren't great quality. I'm not sure how easy it is to source good products in a coastal fishing village surrounded by mountains. Perhaps fresh orange juice is difficult to get, though I expected it in a country that produces many of the oranges we eat. For all that, I recommend this place on the Atlantic coast in the heart of the Basque Country.

A small hotel in a converted house, with just a few rooms and helpful staff. It's right in the town center. It could get noisy, so if you're a light sleeper, maybe ask for a room at the back.

Mabel's kindness, dedication, and excellent service really stood out. The hostel is a beautifully restored mansion that keeps its original character, right in the center of Lekeitio, opposite the town hall and very close to the beach. Breakfast has plenty of variety, and private parking is available. Highly recommended.
