The location is wonderful, but the standard didn’t live up to the five-star rating. I stay in hotels of this level often for work and haven’t experienced service this poor. The room was spacious, but several basics were missing. Apart from some excellent soap and shower products, there was no vanity kit. Le Labo products don’t mean much if guests can’t get basics like a shower cap or travel toothbrush. The hairdryer wasn’t professional grade, which I’d expect at a five-star hotel. The bed wasn’t made properly in the morning, cleanliness was below par, and the second cleaning, which should happen in the morning and afternoon at this level, never took place. Getting a reply was difficult too. They didn’t answer any of my four emails, and I had to call six times before I finally got through. We were told complimentary still water was only included on the first day as a welcome gesture, which was quite embarrassing. The minibar then wasn’t properly restocked. When we asked for two bottles of water late in the evening, we were told we’d have to pay for room service. It felt unfair to be charged extra for such a basic necessity when this was the hotel’s failure. Fortunately, after I spoke with the kind Ghazi, the charge was waived and we were given some local delicacies as a courtesy. That was thoughtful, but a five-star property should be better prepared for this situation. Breakfast was adequate but below minimum standards. The non-starred restaurant had very little choice on the menu, and the waits were long.

The hotel’s setting is exceptional and hard to fault, but the service didn’t meet five-star expectations. At breakfast I was repeatedly overlooked. I waited about 50 minutes and, despite trying several times to get the staff’s attention, nobody took my order. I even had to insist several times just to get a cappuccino. That level of service isn’t acceptable for a hotel in this category.

I barely slept during our stay in room 5001, and I would have left straight away if my sister hadn’t insisted we stay. The mattress was very firm and uncomfortable. There were also electrical problems, as the on/off switch didn’t work reliably with the cards provided. The bathroom smelled mouldy. It had no effective ventilation, and the windows couldn’t be opened. It was cold outside, so we had to sleep with the windows open. The room didn’t seem to have been checked before we arrived. I assume it had sat unused and unventilated through the winter. I was told that all the cheap rooms in the 5000s are affected. There were more issues, but the hotel has good potential, a good location, and good breakfast. Poor management, maintenance, and room design let it down. A waste of time and money. Look elsewhere for a quiet, comfortable stay.

The food is good and the vibe is relaxing. If you want a wellness-focused resort away from everything, this is the place. I also liked the cross-country track. It made for a refreshing, easy run while watching the farmers at work. Getting into the city is the downside. You have to take a private transfer, which can easily cost €50 one way.
