Barcena Mayor is a gorgeous little village, with plenty of great hiking nearby. Paloma was a wonderful, attentive host throughout our stay. We especially liked our cozy third-floor room, with lots of natural light. The building is cute and clean, and the complimentary breakfast was delicious. Just keep in mind there’s nowhere to eat dinner on Mondays or Tuesdays :)

Barcena mayor is a lovely village. It gets many tourists during the day, then becomes very quiet in the evening. At Posada Reserva Verde, we liked the village location, the parking right by the entrance, and the very comfortable bed. But nobody was there to welcome us when we arrived at 5 pm on Friday. We found the key in a key box and got instructions over the phone. The hosts weren't on site, so we had to call them for information. The house was rather dark, and the lights seemed to be controlled remotely. Our balcony didn't look clean, and we found what looked like dusty sand on and in the bed, which we had to brush away before using it. I have no idea how it got there. Breakfast only starts at 9 am, which is late if you're hoping to go hiking, and it felt a bit rushed. We got hardly any information about hikes or things to do nearby. For dinner, you have to leave the village. We were there the first weekend in July, and no restaurant or bar was open for dinner.

The hotel is modern inside and had everything we needed, with clean, well-equipped rooms of a decent size. We stayed two nights with our kids and all of us loved it. Paloma was a very welcoming and helpful host, thank you so much, Paloma. The little village, which is 200 years old, is amazing. It feels like stepping back in time, and we’ll definitely come back soon.

Paloma and Daniel went out of their way to make us comfortable, and Daniel served a delicious breakfast. Posada Reserva Verde was the highlight of our short holiday in Cantabria. It's a wonderful small hotel, beautifully decorated and very comfortable, with all the amenities. Barcena Mayor is a lovely town too. We'll definitely come back!

The posada entrance is beside the restaurant Solana, but the Google map pin for the house is in the wrong place. The town house has been beautifully renovated and has all the amenities we needed. The owner was very helpful and quick to answer all our questions on WhatsApp. Highly recommended if you're in the area and enjoy walking in the natural park, with its beautiful river scenery!
