Hotel Playa de Luanco

The host was very helpful, and you’re close to everything. It’s a nice little hotel with lovely views just above the water. The rooms are small and old-fashioned, but they’ve got plenty of charm.

The terrace was only about 1.5 square meters, but it was easily the best thing about the place. The building overlooks the sea and the town is beautiful, yet staying here was awful, even if it had been free. In my opinion, health or consumer protection authorities should close it down completely. It feels abandoned, with nobody ever at reception. The room seemed to fall short of even basic standards for size, hygiene, accessibility, and ventilation. I could hear the slightest murmur from next door, and footsteps anywhere in the hotel made it sound as if the building might collapse. It’s old and completely neglected. The owner must be a real cheapskate: investing a few thousand euros could keep the hotel full all year.

The receptionist was very nice, and the sea view was the only good thing about the room. If you get the church view, the bell rings at 9 am. The toilet cistern leaked, the shower was tiny and its filter dirty, and there was no hairdryer. The double bed was very small, with just one pillow, so bring your own. It’s the worst hotel in Luanco, despite being in the best location. With a bit of fixing up, it could be amazing.

The shower pressure was so weak it felt like a hospital drip, so imagine trying to wash off beach sand. There was dampness and the furniture was pretty dilapidated. The sea views from the rooms are stunning, and the building is beautiful and in an enviable spot, but the place is utterly neglected. Reception is often unattended, so if the staff are busy at the Ribera bar, expect a long wait. It’s a real shame. With some repairs, the location could have this hotel thriving all year.
