La Quadra

The bed and pillows were superbly comfortable, and the views from the window were top class. We felt looked after throughout our brief stay. It’s rare these days to find a genuine family-run business, especially a hotel and restaurant of such extraordinary quality. We only had time to try one dish from the extensive, intriguing menu full of Catalan and Spanish specialties: slow-cooked pork cheeks.

The car park takes a little effort to reach through the narrow streets, but there’s covered parking if you make it in. There’s also another parking area a short walk away, signposted from the main road before you enter the village proper. In this restored medieval village, the hotel and restaurant are beautiful, with very attentive staff. The food was presented excellently, and the fixed-price lunch menu had nice choices at a reasonable price. Definitely recommend.

The peppermint ice cream was a miss for my wife. She didn’t eat it because it tasted overpoweringly like Fisherman’s Friend rather than an After Eight mint. The cinnamon ice cream was very good, though, and the rest of the holiday lunch was largely excellent. It began with a pic a pic, small portions to share: cold melon soup, anchovies on toast, and croquettes, all good. The duck carpaccio with slivered mushrooms and plum sauce was absolutely great, five stars. The stuffed zucchini with Roquefort sauce was top notch too. I had oven-baked lamb shoulder and my wife had calf cheeks, both very well prepared. Dessert was caramelized pear in chocolate sauce with cinnamon ice cream. I’d give the restaurant four stars overall.

We spent two nights at Hotel La Quadra and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The town is quaint, with plenty of hiking and even a Football Golf Course, where you play golf with a football. Our room was clean and spacious, and the service was friendly and personal. The restaurant was great too. Several family members who run the hotel graduated from culinary schools, and it shows in the delicious food.
