The shower was barely usable, with only a weak trickle and almost no pressure. The ceramic hob also took ages to warm up, and there were hardly any cooking tools. The house is well placed near the Montejo beech forest and Buitrago de Lozoya, but it really needs window screens: with the windows open, flies, wasps, and spiders come in, and there’s no insect repellent. Closing the windows in summer made the place quite hot, and the two fans weren’t enough. Kitchen supplies were sparse too. Four of us had just three teaspoons, and the cupboard door wouldn’t stay open, which made putting dishes away alone tricky. Bring your own salt, vinegar, and oil, since what was supplied wasn’t suitable. Even the washing-up liquid was mostly water with a little soap. It’s not a bad place, but it could be much better.

We found ants as soon as we arrived, in both the kitchen cupboards and the living room. It’s a serious infestation, unlike anything I’ve seen in a long time, and when we reported it, no solution was offered. The house was filthy and very poorly maintained. For the price, it feels like a rip-off. They really need to deal with this.

The bed was big and comfortable, and I slept well. There’s a small patio with a portable barbecue and a table, plus a smart TV with Netflix. The village is lovely, and there’s a bar that opens at 10 a.m. for breakfast and lunch. Still, cleanliness let the place down. We had to air out the fireplace when we arrived, even though it hadn’t been used for months, and my clothes kept smelling of smoke. The microwave and the cupboard holding the toaster needed cleaning, with crumbs in the cupboard. There were spiders and webs, especially in corners and by the radiators, and someone’s sponge had been left on top of the shower partition. For two guests there were two bath towels and one smaller hand or face towel; when we asked, they said that was normal. We also got two shampoo sachets and a small hotel-style bar of soap. The house is centrally located in a small village. It seemed a bit dark, though turning on the lights or opening the patio door brought in enough natural light. It felt like the house was being used for other purposes. Comfort was good, but cleanliness left a lot to be desired, so knowing all this, I wouldn’t book it. P.S. I loved the town.

We had a heat wave, and a couple of nights were warm. Some air conditioning would probably help in summer, though there were several fans and it wasn’t a major problem. The house is spacious and really nice, and it was a good price for four people. There isn’t much kitchenware, but it wasn’t a serious issue. Communication with the manager was great, and the online check-in made arrival easy: we walked straight in. The town is lovely and quiet, with a good restaurant.

A lovely rural house that made it easy to mix relaxing time with trips to Buitrago and Montejo. We had a great experience.
