We had a great stay with our two small kids. The flat was very well equipped, the beds and pillows were super comfy, and everything was extremely clean, including the spotless, fresh-smelling bath towels. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the smiling cleaning ladies who came every day. It’s not a hotel with a 24-hour reception, but the owners got in touch proactively the day before to arrange our arrival. They were easy to reach on WhatsApp and quick to answer any questions. They also offered luggage storage after check-out on our last day and arranged a reliable taxi to the airport that arrived right on time despite our very early flight. The location was perfect, with everything within walking distance. Breakfast isn’t included, but there are lots of nearby cafés and restaurants, and the staff suggested a nice place for breakfast or brunch.

The apartment owner was completely irresponsible and unresponsive, and this was the worst experience I’ve had with any hotel or apartment. There’s no reception or front desk. I arrived at 3:30 pm, after the official check-in time, but the password the owner emailed for the front door and room didn’t work. I called and emailed repeatedly for two and a half hours without a reply. Agoda tried to help but couldn’t reach management either. We were exhausted and it was getting late, so we checked into a nearby hotel. The owner finally emailed three hours after I arrived, then said the problem was fixed four hours after my arrival. I checked into the apartment the next day, even though I’d booked three nights. After the trip, I asked for a refund for the first night and sent a video showing that the code had failed on day one, with the digital lock making a different sound from a successful entry. The owner simply turned down the request.

The bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable, and the shower was roomy with great pressure. The suite was spotless and nicely decorated, and it was wonderfully quiet despite being right in the center. Really, everything was to like.

I was in a downstairs room at 17 Calle de Amor in February, when Madrid was around 38°to 40°, and it often had no heat. There was nothing luxurious about it. Luxury Suites had no staff on site to help. I called the number they provided and left messages, but nobody answered or got back to me about turning on the heat. With no staff around, I checked out by email and asked for a refund for the nights I wouldn't use. The hotel refused. I filed a credit card dispute with my bank after leaving, and the bank supported me. I got the refund within 30 days.

James was a big help at check-in, and even saved the day when I realized I'd left clothes in the room after checking out. My first-floor room was roomy and comfortable, with a handy little kitchen and a small patio outside. The bed and bedding were excellent, and I loved the vintage books and National Geographics on the bookcase. Amor de Dios is a charming little hotel with lots of character. I'd happily stay there again.
