Apartamento Atocha I

The room was cleaned daily, with fresh towels, and the air conditioning worked fairly well. Wi-Fi was good too, and the location is fairly central. Still, I wouldn't stay here again. We paid €530 for three nights, and at that price I'd rather spend a little more on a proper hotel. The place is worn out and needs upgrading; the photos make it look much better than it is. Our room, 17, faced an interior light well and felt gloomy. Its shower head holder was broken, so we had to hold the shower by hand. The walls are thin enough that you hear the people next door. They couldn't keep our bags after checkout, though maybe that's not something to expect from a hostal.

We booked through Booking.com after seeing lots of positive reviews, and the price and location looked convenient. The spot lived up to that, close to Plaza Mayor, Sol, Anton Martin metro station and other important places. The room was clean and really nice, and the staff were very friendly. My only small issue was the bed and pillows, which weren't great for my back and neck. My husband and I came to Madrid for our third wedding anniversary, and we'd definitely stay here again. I wasn't happy with this hotel. The room was much smaller than the photo suggested, the shower wasn't draining, and there was no shampoo. Bathroom smells carried into the room, and it hadn't been cleaned properly. Nobody spoke English or another language.

Getting here is easy, including by bus from the airport, and there are plenty of nice restaurants and cafes nearby. The place is clean, the room has its own shower, and the free Wi-Fi is steady.
