Catalonia Gran Via Madrid

The breakfast room is on the small side, but the staff kept things so organized that we never had a bad experience. Reception and the bar were run well, and the staff there were professional and very helpful. They also have a large safe room where you can leave your bags at check-in or check-out. The hotel sits in a great spot, with historical areas, avenues, and cultural events within walking distance. Bus and underground stops are a few minutes away, and you can reach the airport by train. The old building feels solid, and our room was spacious enough, comfortable, quiet, and clean.

The room was a decent size for two people with two large suitcases, and the hotel is very central. We could walk to the main sights and easily reach public transportation. Still, I wouldn’t come back or recommend it. Noise came through the windows, ceiling, and doors, despite the double windows. We heard the street, the hall, and people in the room above us. Our room also had a strong sewage smell, bad enough one day that I almost couldn’t sleep. It was cold, so opening the windows wasn’t an option. During the crowded holiday season, only one elevator was working. The mattress felt old and crooked, and the room had cheap instant coffee. For a four-star hotel, I’d expect decent coffee and complimentary water, but water was only available from the minibar for a charge.

Gran Via is right outside, with loads of places for coffee, restaurants, and dessert. The hotel’s central, so the main sights are within walking distance in either direction. There’s a first-floor restaurant and a small rooftop pool. The service was great, though an early check-in probably won’t work if there isn’t a cleaned room ready. USB ports are only on one side of the bed, and the pillows could use an upgrade or more firmness options.

The location was super, and both the bar and breakfast were nice. We stayed four nights in room 608, which was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The staff were polite and helpful. Highly recommended!
