El Autor Hotel, Madrid, Autograph Collection

A five-star boutique-style hotel with comfortable rooms, nice staff, and a good location. The central square is about a five-minute walk away, with plenty of little food and shopping spots nearby. Breakfast costs €35. Though it’s a buffet, you order what you want and they bring it to your table. There’s also an old-fashioned caged elevator that still works. The bedding was clean, but the rugs and flooring could use a makeover. Housekeeping was uneven too. Sometimes I got water, and sometimes they forgot to restock something in the bathroom. I didn’t get the sense anyone was checking the quality of the room cleaning.

After a long day, the large, luxurious bathroom and pretty room were a nice place to unwind. The hotel was very clean, quiet, and upscale, with friendly staff. It’s close to the city’s main sights, including the markets, gardens, Museo El Prado, Gran Via, and shopping. The metro is nearby, and there were lots of guards around at night because Parliament is next door. The hotel’s restaurant is wonderful and popular, and it can accommodate hotel guests. The same restaurant is in Salamanca, the well-known luxury shopping area, about 10-12 minutes away by taxi. I’d stay here again.

We had a fantastic family stay at El Autor Hotel. The spacious family suite and striking artwork in the room and shared spaces gave the place a sophisticated feel. We happened to visit during the first anniversary celebration, as the Christmas decorations were going up, which made the atmosphere festive. The on-site El Pimiento Verde was a highlight. We had an excellent breakfast and a great dinner in a beautiful, spotless setting, with attentive and genuinely professional staff. The design and hospitality made the visit feel seamless and memorable. We’ll definitely return to Madrid and highly recommend the hotel.

Such a pretty boutique Marriott in a great spot. The staff were lovely, the rooms looked beautiful, and breakfast had everything I needed. I did miss having a proper desk, though. The round tables were hard to work at.
