Eurostars Puerta Madrid

The 146 bus goes straight into the city centre, though it takes about 40 minutes. The hotel is close to the airport but a fair distance from town. My only reason for taking off a star is that the room had mugs and a kettle but no complimentary drinks or cutlery. Good thing I brought my own. 😁

The only thing I enjoyed was the tasty breakfast. The rest of the stay was deeply disappointing for a hotel presenting itself as premium. Our room had a terrible dusty smell, with sewage odors coming from the bathroom, and the air conditioning didn’t cool properly. I woke up sweating in the middle of the night, in a room that felt close to 30°C. There was no water in the room either. When I asked reception, they said I could buy some at the bar. My colleague’s backpack was taken from reception. He asked to see the CCTV footage, but they wouldn’t show it or share it with him. All he was told was that someone had taken the bag and left. Then after checkout, we were charged an unexplained €70. The invoice also had the wrong company details. We called and emailed several times to get it fixed, but kept being passed between departments without a resolution. Several days later, there was still no reply to our email. Terrible service and management, and nowhere near a premium experience or worth the money.

The rooms were spotless, the staff were friendly, and the location was just right, close to the centre and about 10 minutes from the Bernabéu. A great hotel, really. Then the reception sweets disappeared. They’d been there for the first couple of days, and I’d been taking one a day, hardly a crime. Suddenly they were gone, no explanation or goodbye note. I can only guess my daily sweet habit was too much for management. Bring them back and I’ll happily give five stars. Until then, I’ll nurse my sugar-eating trauma elsewhere.

We heard faint music with a strong bass late at night, probably from upstairs. We were too tired to bring it up with the staff, to be fair. The room was clean, and the staff were good, though not exceptional. Breakfast was very good, better than dinner. All in all, a pretty good hotel.
