Gran Hotel Inglés

The lounge was such a cool place to sit. We had a lovely sherry there, in the same spot where Virginia Woolfe once had discussions with other authors. They were so kind to our group. I’d highly recommend spending some time in the lounge and learning about the hotel’s history if you’re turned away from the place across the street.

We were exhausted after an eight hour flight and arrived very early, but the staff were ready for us as soon as we walked in. They offered coffee and snacks and got our room ready quickly. They also remembered who we were throughout the stay, which made us feel welcome and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was delicious, and dinner at the hotel was fabulous. The hotel is incredibly beautiful, and the service was unmatched. We walked everywhere and felt very safe in the area.

We booked one of the hotel’s top suites and were greeted by a rude front office manager. We feel Gran Hotel Inglés discriminates against world of Hyatt customers in several ways: A) They declined to provide any benefits, although the booking through Hyat clearly stated that some benefits applied for Mr./Mr.S Smith. B) They charged 20-30% more on the nightly rate for direct Hyatt bookings than Expedia or other online travel agencies. C) They declined to offer stay credit or even basic amenities such as water. Avoid it. Thompson Madrid or Hyatt Centric are significantly better value, without penalizing customers.

The staff make the stay feel personal. They remember your name and preferences, and greet you with a smile every time. Their service is hard to beat. I usually don't spend much time in hotel lobbies, but this one has a warm, inviting feel, with live music, a great drink selection, and decadent food. The hotel has plenty of history, too. I'll definitely stay here again when I'm back in Madrid. Unforgettable.
