Hostal Atocha Almudena Martin

For a one or two night stay, this is a good option. We were there just one night, and the room was clean and decent. Check-in is at 1:00, but they let us leave our bags when we arrived early. Our flight was late the next day, and they also kept our luggage for a few hours after checkout. The staff are serious and not especially friendly.

It's in a good location and could work for a budget stay, with a price that reflects the basic, functional facilities. The room was acceptably clean, though some things looked dated. Finding the place was difficult because the sign was barely noticeable. The receptionist didn't make me feel welcome: she took payment and IDs and gave us access, but showed little friendliness or enthusiasm. A smile, handing over the access, and a simple welcome would've made a difference. There may be better places at a similar price with an equally good location.

Clean rooms, a great location, and professional staff. The woman who let us in at 2 am deserves a special thanks. I'd recommend the place and will come back soon.

The rooms were clean and the location was great. That's about it for the good points. I couldn't find the entrance, and when I called reception, the woman didn't understand English and hung up. None of the hostel staff seemed able to speak English. Later, some guests were smoking near my room. I told reception I couldn't breathe because of my tobacco allergy, and they said smoking was prohibited and they'd deal with it soon, but nothing changed. Avoid this place.
