Hostal Cervelo

Clean, basic and welcoming, with great service and a decent price. You can't beat the location in Madrid. The one downside is that rooms are super dark if you don't get one with the balcony on Calle Atocha.

I stayed for 4 days and really enjoyed it. Breakfast was so good each morning, and the staff were friendly and made me feel welcome. You're also just a short walk from the main tourist spots. The TV was a bit old, which I didn't love, but everything else was great. I'd stay again.

It's central Madrid, so it was a bit noisy through the night. Still, my son had the best night's sleep ever at Halloween 🎃. The breakfast was good too.

I was happy with the breakfast, although you get the same selection each morning, and the price was decent compared with some Madrid hotels charging over £200 a night without necessarily including breakfast. I stayed five nights by myself in mid-October for a conference. The room was large, with a double bed, big wardrobe, air conditioning, fridge, and a private bathroom with shower. The staff brought an iron when I asked, and you can also request a kettle if you want tea. It's very central, so I could walk everywhere, and there are metro options nearby. The window faced the inner courtyard, so I heard no street noise. The walls are a bit thin, and a loud neighbour or TV carries through, but it didn't bother me much with earplugs, and any noise wasn't late at night, so I slept well. I'm satisfied with the stay and can recommend the hotel. To clarify, despite the confusing name, it is NOT a hostel, it's a hotel.
