Hostal Royal Cruz

The location made it easy to get around, and everything in the room was spotless. I liked the free water, coffee and cookies, too. Check-in and check-out were quick and painless. The AC had been switched off centrally for winter, but the room stayed warm enough, so I left the window open for some fresh air. A comfortable stay, and I’d come back.

The noise made it impossible to sleep. There was sound from a nightclub in the street and from other rooms, with such poor insulation that the neighbors sounded like they were just beyond a thin curtain.

The location is hard to beat, with Madrid’s main sights and museums walkable or a short subway ride away. I was also glad to find free water, milk, tea and pastries always available in the kitchen. The place was quiet and clean, with a great team and a desk staffed around the clock. The bathroom had good water pressure, and I’ve stayed in smaller rooms at four-star hotels. Don’t let the other hostels in the same building or on the same floor put you off. It was a wonderful place for a few nights.

We were there for three nights and had a good stay. The rooms are small, which I guess is pretty common at this price. They were cleaned every day and the bathroom supplies were replenished. The staff were really friendly, and it was great that they spoke English.
