Hostal San Martin

There are three shared bathrooms, including one with a bidet and one with a shower. Staff were very helpful, and there’s a reception inside the building. The hostel is right in central Madrid, but the rooms face interior streets or a courtyard, so Gran Via noise is fairly limited. For this location, the value for money is very appealing.

I stayed here some time ago and forgot to write a review. Having tried other places since, I still remember this stay fondly. The private rooms are the best cheap hostel rooms I’ve come across: comfortable bed, friendly staff, clean, not too noisy, and a surprisingly pleasant atmosphere and decor for the price. The location is amazing too. I don’t think you’ll find better value in Madrid. If you want to stay cheaply but with some dignity, this is a good place.

The inner patio rooms are quiet and cozy, even with the place right in the center. Everything was really clean, including the rooms, bathrooms and corridors, and there was a nice scent throughout. The staff were friendly, helpful and understanding. It’s close to Callao and Gran Via metro stations, and not far from Principe Pio train station, with trains to places like Salamanca and Segovia. A great base if you want to see more than just the center. Absolutely recommend it.

We only had one day in Madrid and spent one night at this hostel. The location made it easy to walk to lots of attractions, and the people working there were friendly and nice.
